Audio and video troubleshooting — when a live stream or clip won’t play right

If a stream is stuck on a spinner, a clip keeps pausing, or the picture is fine but you can’t hear anything, the fix is almost always one of a small set of things — browser permission, autoplay sound, your network, or another app holding onto the camera. This guide walks through the symptoms you’ll actually see in the player and what to try, in the order that usually works.

This page is for fans watching streams and clips. If you’re a creator and your camera or microphone won’t show up in the studio when you go live, see How to go live — pre-flight checklist instead.

1. The live player is stuck on “Connecting…” or “This room is offline right now.”

These two messages mean different things.

  • “Connecting to the live room…” — the player is trying to join. This usually clears in a couple of seconds. If it stays for more than 20–30 seconds, refresh the page (Ctrl+R / Cmd+R). If it still hangs after the refresh, jump to the full fix-it checklist below.
  • “This room is offline right now.” — the creator is not currently broadcasting. Either they haven’t started yet, they ended the show, or their connection dropped. There’s nothing to fix on your side. The room will switch back to live automatically the moment the creator reconnects — keep the tab open if you want to wait, or follow the creator to get a notification when they go live again.
  • “Could not join the live room right now. Please try again.” — a one-off connection hiccup. Click Reload or refresh the page; the join almost always succeeds the second time.

The player handles short network blips on its own — if your wifi drops for a few seconds the player reconnects automatically and you’ll see the picture come back without doing anything. You only need to reload when the overlay sits there for longer than that.

2. The video plays but there’s no sound — the “Enable room audio” button

When a live room first loads, browsers block audio from playing automatically until you’ve interacted with the page. The player handles this with a button that appears in the bottom-right of the video:

Enable room audio

Click it once and the audio comes through. You only need to click it once per visit to that room.

If you don’t see the button but you also don’t hear anything, check, in this order:

  1. The volume slider in the player itself. The speaker icon at the bottom of the video might be muted (a small slash through the speaker).
  2. Your browser tab’s mute. Right-click the browser tab — if it says Unmute site, click that.
  3. Your computer’s main volume. On Mac, the bell icon top-right; on Windows, the speaker in the system tray.
  4. On a phone: the side switch on iPhone (silent mode mutes some browser audio), or the media volume on Android (separate from the ringtone volume).

If audio works in another tab (a YouTube clip, for example) but not on the Lewdden live room, refresh the Lewdden page and click Enable room audio when it reappears.

3. The picture keeps stuttering, freezing, or going low-quality

Streams adapt to your connection. If your network can’t keep up, the player drops the picture quality automatically so the stream keeps running rather than freezing. You don’t have a quality dropdown — the platform picks the best your connection can handle, moment to moment.

If the picture is constantly choppy or the player keeps re-buffering:

  • Switch network if you can. Wifi → mobile hotspot, or vice versa. A different network is the single biggest fix.
  • Sit closer to your router. Wifi loses speed fast through walls.
  • Close other tabs and apps that use bandwidth. A second video tab, a big download, a video call running in the background — any of those can starve the live stream.
  • Plug into ethernet if you can. Wired beats wifi for stability.

A short freeze every few minutes is normal on a marginal connection. Constant stuttering means your network is over capacity for live video — switch networks or wait for the rest of the household to stop streaming.

4. Camera or microphone permission for an exclusive private show

Exclusive private shows use cam2cam — the creator sees your camera as well. When the show starts, the browser will ask for permission to use your camera and microphone. If you accidentally clicked Block, you’ll see:

“Camera or microphone access was denied.”

The fix is in your browser, not on Lewdden:

  • Chrome / Edge / Brave on desktop: click the camera icon at the left of the address bar, set Camera and Microphone to Allow for lewdden.com, then refresh the page.
  • Safari on Mac: Safari menu → Settings → Websites → Camera (and Microphone). Find lewdden.com in the list and switch it to Allow.
  • Firefox on desktop: click the padlock at the left of the address bar → Connection secure → More information → Permissions tab, then change Use the Camera / Use the Microphone to Allow.
  • iPhone (Safari): Settings → Safari → Camera (and Microphone) → Allow. If lewdden.com appears under “Settings for Websites,” set those to Allow.
  • Android (Chrome): the three-dot menu → Settings → Site settings → Camera (and Microphone) → find lewdden.com and switch to Allow.

You may also see:

  • “No working camera or microphone was found for this browser session.” — your computer doesn’t see a camera/mic at all. Check it’s plugged in, then refresh.
  • “The browser could not open the selected camera or microphone. Another app or tab may still be using it.” — close Zoom, FaceTime, OBS, Google Meet, Teams, or another browser tab that has the camera open, then refresh.

Standard private shows (without cam2cam) and every other room mode don’t need camera or microphone permission — only exclusive privates do. See Watching a live stream — six modes for the difference.

5. A clip or recording won’t play

Clips and stream recordings (VODs) play in the same kind of video player you’re used to from any other site. If a clip won’t load or keeps buffering:

  • Refresh the page. This fixes most one-off load failures.
  • Try a different network (wifi → mobile or back). Same logic as live streams — a slow connection makes the player drop quality and re-buffer.
  • Try a different browser. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge are all supported, but a corrupted browser cache occasionally breaks playback only in one of them.

If you bought a clip and it won’t play at all, the purchase is safe — clips you’ve paid for stay in your account. See Buying a clip — paying, watching, and finding it later for where to find it again.

6. Phone-specific tips

Lewdden live and clips both work on phones. Use the regular browser — Chrome on Android, Safari on iPhone — and not a private/incognito window (some browsers block site permissions in private mode).

  • Plug the phone in. Watching live video drains battery fast.
  • Mobile data vs wifi. If wifi is patchy at home, mobile data is often steadier for live streams. The player adapts to whichever is available.
  • Silent mode (iPhone). The physical switch on the side mutes some sounds. Flip it back if a stream is silent on iPhone.
  • Background tabs pause. If you switch to another app for a minute, iOS and Android pause the video. Coming back to the tab usually resumes it; if not, refresh.
  • Cam2cam in exclusive privates also works on phones — the browser will prompt for camera and mic the first time. Allow both.

7. Pop-up blocked when topping up your wallet

The wallet top-up flow opens a payment window in a new tab. If your browser blocks pop-ups, you’ll see:

“The payment window could not open. Please allow popups for this site, then retry.”

Allow pop-ups for lewdden.com (the address bar usually shows a small icon you can click to allow them), then click Top up again. Your previous attempt is not a charge — nothing was billed.

See Topping up your wallet for the full flow.

8. Quick symptom → fix list

A short reference for the most common symptoms.

  • Spinner that won’t clear — most likely a network blip or wifi dropout. Refresh the page (Ctrl+R / Cmd+R).
  • “This room is offline right now.” — the creator is not broadcasting. Wait or follow the creator.
  • Picture but no sound — your browser blocked autoplay sound. Click Enable room audio in the player.
  • Choppy or low-quality picture — your network is slow. Switch networks; close other heavy tabs.
  • “Camera or microphone access was denied.” (cam2cam only) — browser permission is set to Block. Click the camera icon in the address bar → Allow → refresh.
  • “No working camera or microphone was found…” — the camera isn’t detected by the browser. Check it’s plugged in; pick the right one in your browser settings.
  • “Another app or tab may still be using it.” — Zoom, FaceTime, or OBS still has the camera. Close those apps and refresh.
  • Clip stuck on a spinner — cache or network glitch. Refresh; try a different network or browser.
  • “The payment window could not open…” — pop-ups are blocked. Allow pop-ups for lewdden.com and click Top up again.

9. The fix-it checklist

When something is wrong and you’re not sure which symptom matches, run through these in order. Eight times out of ten one of the first three steps fixes it.

  1. Hard refresh the page. Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows / Linux, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac. This reloads the page and skips the browser cache for that visit.
  2. Try a different network. Switch wifi to mobile data (or back). A flaky network is the most common cause of stuttering and stalled live streams.
  3. Try a different browser. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge all work. If you normally use one, try another for that page only.
  4. Check the browser tab is not muted. Right-click the tab → Unmute site (if shown).
  5. Close any other app that uses your camera or microphone (Zoom, FaceTime, OBS, Teams). Only relevant for cam2cam in exclusive privates.
  6. Check site permissions. Click the padlock or camera icon at the left of the address bar — verify Camera, Microphone, and Sound are set to Allow for lewdden.com.
  7. Restart the browser. Quit fully (not just close the window) and reopen.
  8. Restart your phone or computer. Rare, but it clears anything else holding onto the camera or mic.

If everything’s still wrong after step 8, that’s when to reach out to support — see the next section.

10. Contact support

If the steps above don’t help, open a ticket via Contact support and pick the category Streaming playback.

Include in the ticket:

  • The URL of the stream or clip that’s not working (the address bar of the page where you see the issue).
  • The exact text of any error message in the player, if there is one.
  • The time it happened (so the team can look at the right window of logs).
  • Your browser and version (e.g. Chrome 120 on Windows, Safari on iPhone 15) and your network (wifi / mobile / ethernet).
  • A screenshot of the player or the error, if you can — the support form accepts images.

The team can usually tell from those details whether it’s an account issue, a temporary platform issue, or something local to your network or browser.

Common questions

Q: I refreshed and now the chat is empty — did I lose anything?
No. Your tips, ticket purchase, and any messages you sent stay on your account. Only the on-screen chat history within that browser tab is wiped on refresh; the next chat lines come through normally.

Q: The “Enable room audio” button is gone but I still can’t hear anything.
Once you’ve clicked it once that visit, the button hides itself. If there’s still no audio, work through §2 — usually it’s the player’s volume slider, a muted browser tab, or the system volume.

Q: Will I be charged for the time the player was stuck on a spinner in a per-minute room?
No. Per-minute billing only runs while the stream is actually playing. If the player can’t connect, the meter doesn’t run.

Q: My ticket worked yesterday — why does the player say “This room is offline right now.” today?
Tickets are good for the show they were bought for. If you bought a ticket for a specific stream and that stream has ended, the room shows offline; the recording (if there is one) appears in the creator’s library afterwards. See Recording your livestreams — where your VODs live for how recordings work.

Q: Does Lewdden work on smart TVs or game consoles?
Officially, no — desktop and mobile browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) are what the platform is tested against. A console browser may work for clip playback but live streams aren’t tested there and we won’t be able to troubleshoot it.

Q: Is there a desktop or mobile app to install?
No. Everything runs in the browser. No download is needed and there is no dedicated app.
